This sculpture offers a unique and immersive experience from within the confines of a car, whether in motion, waiting at traffic lights, or entering parking lots and gas stations. Its intention is to evoke a lasting response that goes beyond a fleeting visual encounter, resonating with the viewer and providing a metaphor that is both contemplative and light-heartedly humorous.

Our goal was to craft a work that harmonizes with the surrounding area, presenting a simple form that engages the viewer in the immediate experience rather than through intricate details. It becomes an integral part of their journey, a simplistic yet impactful line.

The personal interpretation of this artwork revolves around humour and the playful transformation of an everyday object into a larger-than-life representation. It specifically relates to the working-class demographic, encompassing tradespeople, transportation, and the overall character of the industrial precinct. The sculpture becomes a defining feature of the precinct's identity, leaving a memorable impression as a concise visual narrative.

"You go past the big extension cord and turn left..."

The dominant metal pipe form is vivid orange, intentionally designed to stand out against the backdrop of lush green lawn. The sculpture utilizes the contrasting colours of orange and green to enhance its visual impact and presence within the landscape.

The two plug forms were cast using glass-reinforced concrete, as four segments with an internal metal armature connects through to internal galvanized plates, which are then securely bolted together during assembly. This robust construction ensures the sculpture's durability and longevity, withstanding the test of time and weather.

“Power for the People” offers a moment of delight, encouraging a pause in the everyday hustle and bustle to appreciate the unexpected, playful, and thought-provoking representation of a familiar object. It invites viewers to engage with their surroundings, sparking conversations and forging connections within the industrial precinct, while providing a touch of light-heartedness and visual intrigue to their journey.
