VOXLAB has developed a conceptual response to this site that positions art at the forefront of the ever-evolving automotive industry. Our concept seeks to ignite the imagination of students at this institution through dynamic sculptural works that showcase the boundless possibilities of industrial materials used in unconventional and creative ways.
The concept consists of two distinct standalone sculptural forms that symbolize the wheel and its profound impact on society. These iconic way-finding statements celebrate the transformative power of this simple form in advancing our transportation-centric society. As viewers move through these sculptures, they engage in a visual dance that is both playful and interactive. The shifting perspectives along the walk-through path create intriguing asymmetries that can be enhanced through lighting effects. At night, the sculptures come alive with reflected and internal lighting, evoking a human response. Integrated automotive lights can be utilized to trigger motion-activated LED light effects and programmable sounds.
In collaboration with Forth Consulting, we have developed the engineering plans to meet the requirements of public art sculptures. At VOXLAB, we hold a strong appreciation for the reuse of materials. The polyethylene car panel sections will be locally sourced from the Pickle District, WA Arts Precinct, in West Perth. This material has direct ties to the current automotive industry and is no longer accepted for recycling in China. Our goal is to give this discarded material a new lease on life and push the boundaries of creativity.
'Super Nature' aims to connect and inspire the next generation while instilling a sense of wonder and positivity about our shared future.
