"Canopy" is a functional shade structure that seamlessly blends art and nature, bringing the beauty of the natural world to life. Inspired by the intricate patterns found in leaves and the organic shapes of trees, this unique design creates a mesmerising tree-like pattern that provides both shade and a visually stunning experience.

The concept revolves around the idea of capturing the essence of a natural tree pattern and translating it into a functional shade structure. By replicating the veinal matrix found in the membrane of a leaf, an organic pattern emerges, reflecting the natural rhythms and interconnectedness of the environment.

To bring this concept to life, the intricate leaf pattern was meticulously overlapped and scaled up, resulting in a captivating half-dot effect that creates enchanting shadows on the ground beneath. Large panels were laser cut, showcasing the intricate details of the pattern. Custom-designed branch-like connectors were carefully crafted to join the panels seamlessly to the frame of the structure, enhancing the organic aesthetic and providing structural stability.

In addition to the shade structure, "Canopy" incorporates timber bench seats that further celebrate the natural world. Inspired by the graceful bends and undulating forms found in trees, the seats were skilfully steam bent to mimic the organic shapes of their origin. The natural tones of the timber are thoughtfully preserved and enhanced through a protective coating, allowing the beauty of the material to shine through.

The interplay of light and shadow, cast by the intricate leaf pattern, creates a captivating visual display that changes throughout the day. Through its thoughtful design and meticulous craftsmanship, this artwork transforms a practical element into an immersive and captivating experience, reminding us of the wonders and inspirations found within our natural surroundings.
